Putting Diabetes into Remission: The breakthrough of our current paradigm

Chronic diseases have been a growing concern, defying conventional medical solutions for years. Medical science have been trapped in a vicious cycle of using pills and procedures as primarily modalities of treatment.

While acute issues can often be effectively addressed, the battle against chronic diseases like diabetes has been an ongoing challenge. It has always been adding more medications, changing them or altering the dosages.

However, a glimmer of hope has emerged in recent years, as we now stand on the brink of putting diabetes into remission, a feat that was once considered elusive.

There are numerous studies and trials that has begun to completely change the outlook including DIRECT studies 1 and 2

The Cellular Underpinnings of Chronic Disease:

To understand this remarkable progress, we must delve deep into the molecular and cellular principles of chronic disease. At its core, chronic disease often involves a complex interplay of genetic factors, environmental influences, and lifestyle choices. In the case of diabetes, it's essential to explore the intricate mechanisms that lead to its development and persistence.

Insulin and Glucose Regulation:

Diabetes is primarily a disorder of insulin and glucose regulation within the body. Insulin, produced by the pancreas, plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels in a perfect system of sensitive loops.

When this process is disrupted, it leads to elevation of blood sugar, a hallmark of type 2 diabetes. Chronic inflammation, obesity, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, and dysfunctional beta cells in the pancreas are key factors contributing to this disease.

Paradigm shift in Lifestyle Medicine:

The breakthrough in putting diabetes into remission in the last five years has been fueled by advancements in lifestyle medicine.

The concept of lifestyle medicine emphasizes the power of everyday choices in managing and even reversing chronic diseases.

This approach aligns perfectly with philosophy of "Mouth, Muscle, and Mind" and the six pillars of lifestyle medicine.

Mouth :

We recommend the evidence based fact that diet rich in whole foods, low in processed sugars and carbohydrates, can positively influence blood sugar control. Especially when combined with time based caloric restriction ( fasting)

Muscle - Exercise:

Regular physical activity can enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce chronic inflammation. Lifestyle medicine prescriptions recommended any physical activity at moderate intensity ( you can talk, but cannot sing ).

Mind - Stress Management:

Chronic stress is known to affect blood sugar regulation. Whilst stress is pervasive due to our fast paced lifestyle. It is Mindfulness and stress reduction techniques recommended exclusively by the school, can be used to reduce, and reverse its effect on health and overall mental state of being. This practice can be transformative.

Quantum Insights:

Delving even deeper, we can explore the quantum insights into the power of thought and vibration on our physical reality, including health. As new tools emerged, with better insight into the influence of the brain through the mind in the body.

The concept of interconnectedness and how our thoughts affect our physiological processes are captivating. Every observational study has unveiled the incredible power of human social connections.

Conclusion:

In 2015, the idea of putting diabetes into remission seemed distant.

However, the relentless pursuit of understanding the cellular and molecular intricacies of chronic disease, coupled with the principles of lifestyle medicine, has brought us to a transformative moment in 2023. We now stand on the precipice of remission for chronic diseases like diabetes, offering hope to millions. The journey toward a healthier, happier, and longer life is within reach, and it all begins with the cellular and molecular principles that underpin our well-being.
